I originally hail from the Chicagoland area, and was active even as a child –just ask my mom! Through my high school years and beyond, I found myself spending a lot of my time running, biking, rollerblading and working out at my local gym. As I got more involved in running races as long as the marathon, I found myself interested in talking with people about the how & why of physical fitness, and I encouraged my less active family and friends to become more active and get moving!
When I moved out to New York in 2000 I began working in a health club in the sales and accounting department but realized very quickly that what I really loved was working hands-on with people. I missed helping people to set and reach their goals. At this point I decided to seek certification through ACE (American Council on Exercise), so I could start my career as a trainer. I felt there was a real need for in-home personal training – finding the time and energy to get to a gym is usually the biggest challenge to folks maintaining a fitness program. I received my ACE certification in 2005 and have been leading small groups and working with individuals ever since. When my husband landed a teaching job in New Mexico in 2010, Jane’s Way Fitness headed to the southwest.
In 2017, just as my husband and I were about to move back east from New Mexico to West Virginia, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I truly believe that my involvement with an active lifestyle really paid off as I struggled with this harsh new reality. Weeks after a single mastectomy changed my life, I was out walking and jogging along the beautiful banks of the Potomac. The affects of chemotherapy were definitely lessened by my dedication to continue moving and getting outside as much as I could. I met new friends through shared experiences and soon after I earned an additional credential as a professional Cancer Exercise Specialist, through CETI, the Cancer Exercise Training Institute.
What makes me different from other trainers? I like to believe it is my understanding of just how hard it is to find support and encouragement in our busy world. I understand that every person is unique and has different needs and goals. There is no such thing as a “one size fits all” exercise program. I abhor the cookie cutter approach to program design. The program you follow must be as natural to you as brushing your teeth or combing your hair. Whether you are looking to lose weight, get stronger, develop core strength, improve your golf game, run a marathon or find a way back after a bout with cancer, with my guidance, expertise and motivation I believe I can help you succeed and life a fuller life..
As an avid runner, marathoner, and outdoor enthusiast, I bring my own passion, sense of humor and down-to-earth approach to the programs I design. I will be there to encourage, motivate, and walk side-by-side with you down the path to a fitter, happier and healthier lifestyle. I have dedicated my life to this mission!
With love and encouragement,
